|Land of the Free?|
The regressives in America love to talk about freedom, and how America is the freest country in the world, but is it really? The question is harder to answer than it may seem. If you wanted to know which country has the most land, that would be easy [Russia at 6,592,800 sq miles]. If you wanted to know which country has the most people, again that would be easy [China at 1,344,130,000 (2011)]. If you wanted to know which country has the highest GDP in US dollars, again easy [US at $15.6097 trillion]. But how do you measure freedom?
One way to measure freedom is by how many people per one hundred thousand does the government throw in prison. More laws and stricter penalties equal a larger prison population thus less freedom. Below is a listing of all the OCED [Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development] countries, these are all the first world advanced countries.
Going by this measure the United States is by far the least free of all the world's advanced countries by a huge measure, 540% less free than the average of our peers. By comparison Japan has only 55 people in prison per one hundred thousand citizens versus the US at 716.
The great irony of our American police state being that it is almost entirely brought to us by the very people who claimed to hate big government, [regressive] conservative Republicans.
